Fair warning. I’m not feeling great – nothing serious, just overall crappy – and have only the slightest interest in doing this. Plus, it’s been pissing down raining all day and I use that as an excuse to do nothing more so than usual. It’s been a stressful couple of days here at Enon Holler World Headquarters – again, nothing serious – and I’m tired. Also, I have some Actual Paying Work this week, so there’s that there, then.
Anyhow, let’s get the Gibberish out there. I really don’t know what happened to Thursday’s Gibberish. I know I had to have written something, but it’s entirely possible I forgot. As I said, it’s been a bit of a stressful week and I’m not inclined to pay attention. Probably wasn’t a big loss, as Tuesday wasn’t anything to brag about. Saturday was good, though, but since I’m feeling bad lazy – and we’re getting some threatening weather alerts here – I’ll probably wind up rehashing most of it before I’m through.
I haven’t been as good as I could be about saving drafts for a couple of days, so that might be why Thursday disappeared into the aether. In any event, there were three mass shootings across the country yesterday and they’ve almost completely disappeared from the radar. There was a shooting at a casino in Wisconsin on Oneida land yesterday, for example, that killed two. There was a shooting at a house party in Saint Paul today that injured four but no one was killed.
Since I wrote about this, I better pass it along. A number of media organizations – NBC News, The New York Times, and The Washington Post – retracted a report that said the FBI warned Rudy Giuliani he was being directly targeted for a Russian disinformation campaign. Apparently, the initial information came via far-right news network One America News. I don’t know if this was the result of crossed wires, sloppy reporting, rushing to get a scoop before making sure it was correct, or a combination of all of them. However, it doesn’t really affect the ongoing investigation into Giuliani in connection with attempts to use the Ukrainian government to dig up non-existent dirt on Joe and Hunter Biden prior to the 2020 election. Check your sources, kids, and double-check that.
Mitt Romney got booed at the Utah GOP convention by most of the crowd, with people hollering “traitor” and “communist,” again showing how people who use that as a pejorative have no idea what it means. This all stems from his vote to impeach Donald Trump during his two trials. He narrowly avoided being censured by the party, showing just how performative all that is. This is another example of how much sway the Former Guy still has within the party among the common rabble if not the party leadership.
The national GOP seems to throwing everything in on the cultural war side of things, as Joe Biden’s actual policy work seems to be enjoying both success and popularity with the average American voter. Anti-trans bills, complaints about “woke,” and attempts to make voting more difficult seems to be the plan for 2022. Time will tell if it works, but if I had to pick, I’d say that the last one will have the most pull when the rubber meets the road.
Okay, those last two paragraphs were like pulling teeth. Have a nice week and keep an eye on the weather.
